Themed “Hold out Your Candle,” 25 pastors’ wives spent one night in pyjama on March 21, 2009 at Central Luzon Conference (CLC) Cucueco Hall.
The program, which started with a light dinner at 6:00 pm and ended at 12:00 mn with the “Follow the Bible” reading and praying, was a joint project of the North Philippine Union Mission (NPUM) Shepherdess International (SI) headed by Eleanor Roque and CLC SI Director Annabelle Acosta.
“This is done to foster a closer camaraderie and bonding among the pastors’ wives, Roque said. “By sleeping, laughing, getting to know each other and praying together.”
Roque also related that the program was set to enhance their relationship with their pastor husbands and children; to train them on crises counselling so they can assist their husbands in their ministry; and to provide livelihood opportunities that will help them to have a sense of self-support.
Roque lectured on ‘A Perspective of Female Sexuality in Relation with your Team Ministry’ and CLC Human Resource Development (HRD) Director Amelia Soriano discussed ‘Crisis Counselling with Interaction.’
Soriano also administered the ‘Bar on Emotional Quotient Test’ that provided the attendees the opportunity to describe themselves by indicating the degree of the way they feel, think, or act in relation to the 51 given statements.
Through this test, the attendees were able to identify their intrapersonal, interpersonal, stress management, adaptability, general mood and positive impression scales which gave a low stress management result. They identified their total EQ as well.
“Marami sa asawa ng pastor ay stressed,” Soriano and Roque revealed. (Many among pastors’ wives suffer from stress)
This result matched with the needs that pastors’ wives that were identified during their meeting with Joyce Dy, CLC SI president: skills on how to understand their children, counselling and stress management.
During the commitment service, Pastor Diosdado Fofue, CLC Ministerial director, encouraged the participants in his message.
Fofue told them, “How many percent is the contribution of the ministers’ wives in their ministry? It’s not 95%. It’s 100%!”
Fofue revealed his impression on their visitation for pastors’ family in areas 1 and 2 that ministers’ wives are happy as he reminded the attendees of their role. “You have a big role in the ministry of your pastor husband,” Fofue said. “You are the model in your home and outside your home, in your churches and outside your churches.”
After Fofue’s message, Pastor Jesse Acosta, Jr., CLC Youth director, led the group in commitment prayer.
This event made an impact to the participants. “Sa totoo lang na touch ako,” Esther Genovea, wife of North Nueva Ecija District Pastor Noe Genovea, said. “Nakita ko ang role ko para maging successful ang aking husband at aganda pala ang full time house wife kasi mapapangalagaan ang mga anak sa kanilang paglaki.” (I was really touched. I learned about my role on the success on my husband and it is good to be a full time housewife because children can be well-taken care of.)
“Additional knowledge, character development, and spiritual uplifting,” Rachel Aubrey S. Bosito, Jose Rizal University Filipino teacher in Mandaluyong City said while relating what she gained from the event.
The activity was just an opening to more pyjama night outs in different areas of CLC.
