CLC AMiCUS Holds its General Assembly

The Adventist Ministry to College and University Students (AMiCUS) Association of the Central Luzon Conference successfully held its general assembly with the theme “Press ONE (Encountering, Nurturing, Outreaching)”. This event was held at the CLC Cucueco Hall in Potrero, Malabon in July 23-24 and was attended by the different CLC-AMiCUS chapters, pastors, and other people who are concerned in the ministry. The main purpose of the event was to unite every members of the CLC-AMiCUS for the success of its ministry in the school year 2011-2012.

The chapters that were present in the GA are: University of the Philippines-Diliman; University of the Philippines-Manila; Manila Central University; Polytechnic University of the Philippines-Main Campus; Bulacan State University; Tehnological Institute of the Philippines-Quezon City; Nueva Ecija; Cavite and; East Bulacan Adventist Youth Association (EBAYA).

 

The event started during the Sabbath School program where Pastor Sherman Fiedacan, the present youth director of the CLC, gave a message on how the youth could improve their personal devotion with Christ. This was followed by the group dynamics/getting to know activity that was led by Master Guide Lester Melanio.

After the Sabbath School came the Divine Service where Pastor Richard Tamayo discussed and shared about the Urban Ministry and how it works in evangelizing people living in an urban place. The message challenged the CLC-AMiCUS to be involved in this ministry specially those members whose schools are located in urban areas. Aside from the message given by Pastor Tamayo, the Pasay Adventist Church Deaf Ministry also gave a message in song interpretation before and after Pastor Tamayo’s message.

During the AY Program in the afternoon, Pastor Fiedacan shared another message, but about reaching out and evangelizing this time. He shared his personal experiences and messages from the Bible and Ellen White’s writings in order to encourage the AMiCUS to share th gospel to other people, specially to their schoolmates, as part of their ministry. It was also during the AY Program when the Question and Answer portion was held in order to answer the members’ concerns and to help them with their problems as Seventh-day Adventists studying in non-Adventist institutions.

Before the AY Program was finally ended, everyone was given his/her CLC-AMiCUS buddy who will be his/her spiritual partner from a different chapter. This is part of the activity Buddy in One-Other in One-Two in One which aims to strengthen the camaraderie and friendship of each individual members to other members of the CLC-AMiCUS.

During the evening, a devotional was led by the AMiCUS-PUP chapter where it’s adopted member, Nelven Alavanza, gave a message about our near marriage with God. After the devotional was the social night where everyone went treasure hunting.

The next morning was given for the commitment service that was led by Pastor Fiedacan and was participated by every member of the CLC-AMiCUS Association. The service was done by candle lightning as sign of giving and sharing light to the people, and by taking a pledge of commitment to the Lord.

On the last part of the general assembly was the discussion with Congresswoman Daryl Grace Abayon, representative of AANGAT TAYO Partylist, about the CHEd Memorandum for teachers, personnel, and students to be excused due to compliance with religious obligations. On the other hand, her spouse, Atty. Harlin Abayon, offered a scholarship to everyone that can be claimed on the second semester of this school year. The couple also gave P2,500 cash to every graduating students present on the general assembly. But aside from discussing the CHEd Memorandum and giving scholarships, Congresswoman Abayon also shared her beauty tips to the youth for them to stay beautiful/handsome, she said.

The CLC-AMiCUS Association General Assembly culminated after lunch of July 24.
