"A child's glory is his father." Proverbs 17:6b (TLB)

There are many ways to measure success; not the least of which is the way your child describes you when talking to a friend.

The Deaf Hear Secrets of Living Longer

Twenty four (24) hearing impaired regular employees heard the secrets of living longer on July 23 at OB Varona Enterprises, 2nd floor, 2008 Leveriza St., Pasay City.

The Central Mail Exchange Center (CMEC) of Philippines Postal Corporation (PPC) under Oscar V. Lazo, CMEC director and Hector R.R. Villanueva, PPC Postmaster general tied up with David Varona, NeedHealth Ministries president, to teach the hearing impaired employees about health during the 31th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week from July 17-23, 2009.

Varona gave a lecture on secrets of living longer while Bing Domantay, Interpreter under the Philippine Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf, interpreted the lecture through sign language.

Varona cited a study that documented the diminishing of four generations among the Sardinians due to the advent of Fast Food Industries.

He also showed the advantage of the Seventh-day Adventist healthy lifestyle compared to the general population.

Dr. Blessy Varona, NeedHealth Ministries lecturer, assisted by Interpreter Marde Palma, said "Do not worry if you will not eat meat because plant-based diet supplies our nutritional needs."

She also emphasized that plant-based diet prevents heart diseases.

As a result of this seminar, Orpha Coquinco, CMEC deaf employee, said through sign language, "Our time is not wasted, we learned many things. We don't hear those things before. We'll spread them to others as well."

"I learned many things about health. And now I will take care of myself," Luis Mercado, CMEC hearing impaired employee, said.
