"A child's glory is his father." Proverbs 17:6b (TLB)

There are many ways to measure success; not the least of which is the way your child describes you when talking to a friend.

Eighty-six senior citizens attended the banquet organized by the first Adventist senior citizens organization in the Philippines in Subic last December 6 to strengthen bonds and later foster more participation in God's work despite their age.

Pastor Jose Zabat, Jr., the Family director who spearheaded the organization, believes that the senior citizens can still do lot for the benefit of the Central Luzon Conference's (CLC) mission.

Treatment Deluxe. A senior citizen organization member, Magdalene Ferry, reads the poem she composed for Pastor Jose Zabat, Jr., Central Luzon Conference (CLC) Family director at Golden Dragon Restaurant in Subic on Dec. 6, 2009. The poem showed the group's great appreciation of Zabat's leadership.

Commitment speaker, CLC executive secretary Benjamin Casimiro said that the senior citizens as steadfast believers are very much needed."You are now the modern Daniels," said Casimiro as he compared the attendees to Daniel. "We need you in the church."

Casimiro thanked the senior citizens for giving inspiration that serves as a great challenge for the youth.

In the continuance of the program which was filled of special numbers and testimonies from the attendees themselves, not only birthday celebrators but also the oldest in the group were recognized.

Rosario Robles of Sta. Maria, Bulacan bested all the attendees at age 86. The other two awardees were both 80 years old-Ana Tarroza of Baesa and Leonardo Camagay of Olongapo.

All the attendees showed energy and cooperation especially in the picture taking.

"Being with the senior citizens to take pictures of them is quite an experience to enjoy," photography volunteer Malou Escasa said. "I am happy being with them."

Meanwhile, the senior citizens surprised Zabat as a member from Olongapo, Magdalene Ferry, read to him a poem she wrote herself. The poem expressed the group's great appreciation of the director's initiatives especially for the senior citizens.

The whole affair was organized through the efforts of the officers led by Felino Tan, the president.

Katungkulang tinanggap pinagyama't isinagawa

Kaya't sa pagtatapos ng aking tula
Saludo ako sa iyong mga gawa
Na dapat kong tularana at dapat kong gampanan
Pagka't iisang Diyos an gating pinaglilingkuran

Kaya't narito ang regalo ko sa iyo
Kahit na maliit, galing naman sa puso ko
Kapag ‘yong sinuot, mas mataas opa sa iyo
Saludo ako sa pagiging lider mo
