March Christmas. The members of Meycauayan Seventh-day Adventist Church distributes gift boxes to the needy children of Brgy. Malhacan on Mar. 8, 2009. Both the givers and the receivers busied themselves in opening the gifts.
Last March 8, the Adventist Community Services (ACS) of Meycauayan distributed 51 Christmas-themed shoe boxes that contained school supplies, toys, books, and various practical items to needy children from Brgy. Malhacan.
Church members led by Church Elder Larry Gubat and South Bulacan II District Pastor Tony Salarza, teamed up with Brgy. Captain Danny Abacan and mother-leaders for the distribution.
The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) in the country, in coordination with the organization Samaritan's Purse, provided the gifts.
Dubbed as Operation Christmas Child (OCC), the project seeks to bring "joy and hope to children in desperate situations around the world through gift-filled shoe boxes and the Good News of God's love."
Poor children from the country's 13 sitios and two other children who were fire victims from a neighboring town were chosen for the distribution. Another eight children from the church members were also delighted to receive the gifts.
"God is simply amazing, hindi ko mapigil mapaiyak nang makita ko ang tuwa at saya ng mga bata sa pagbubukas ng kanilang natanggap na gift boxes. Maraming salamat po," said Janice Tigar, mother of the fire victims. (God is simply amazing, I can't help but cry upon seeing the joy of these children while opening the gift boxes they received.)
"Ngayon lang po nakatanggap ang anak ko ng ganitong regalo. Maraming salamat po," a grateful Noime Aquino exclaimed. (It is only this time that my child received a gift like this.)
Through the Adopt-A-Barangay program, the ACS aims to foster a strong public awareness and extend friendship evangelism to the community.
