"A child's glory is his father." Proverbs 17:6b (TLB)

There are many ways to measure success; not the least of which is the way your child describes you when talking to a friend.

Storm Ondoy disturbs Wellness Weekend celebration

The excitement and thrill of Central Cavite 2 District turned to discouragement when storm Ondoy's signal number 2 was announced over the radio during the start of the Wellness Weekend celebration on the night of Sept. 25, 2009.

The Wellness Weekend, which was held until Sunday, September 27, in celebration of its third year anniversary, was instituted by the Health Ministries Departments of the Central Luzon Conference (CLC) and the North Philippine Union Conference (NPUC). This annual celebration aims to transform each local church into a health training center for its members and neighborhood.

The vesper meeting on Friday was meant for stress evaluation and management but only a few members were able to attend due to the typhoon. Despite Ondoy’s wrath continuing on the following day, the celebration parade on Sunday was not postponed.

The members of the six churches under the district packed medicines, vitamins, milk, toothbrushes, bedsheets, soy coffee and emergency kits to be given away on Sunday.  Each of the churches also prepared breakfast for 200 poor children. They were also set for a medical outreach program.

The storm subsided just in time for the Wellness Weekend’s final day. Although some of them were affected by the destructions and floods caused by the typhoon, they still came to Brgy. Amaya to join in the parade that started at 6:30 am. Wearing color-coded shirts, they raised small flags and health slogans while having the procession. They also distributed leaflets.

The parade culminated at the baranggay’s covered court wherein a morning devotional was held. A breakfast provided by Mr. and Mrs. Bensur Sales of Naic Church and their friends, Mr. and Mrs. Bert Deseo, was also shared by the parade participants.

The medical mission was started with blood sugar testing for church members of 40 years old and above. The medical mission catered to more than 500 patients and gave away medicines compliments of RiteMed Pharmaceuticals and Dr. Amy Anacay and Dr. Beth Panganiban of Maragondon Medical Chapter. Aside from the feeding and medical programs, health lectures were also held.
