Two hundred sixty-four young people came together to be refreshed and had their faith refueled during the Central Luzon Conference (CLC)-wide Youth Leadership Retreat themed “Modern Disciples” from October 27 to 29 in Jerus Beach Resort, San Felipe, Zambales.
Attended by active local church youth leaders, officers, and members of the Adventist Ministry to Colleges and University Students, the goal of the event to instill in their minds that God has called them as His modern disciples were received and understood. Through His servant leaders and their messages, the next generation leaders were blessed abundantly. Speakers and their topic were: Jobbie Yabut, Southern Asia-Pacific Division (SSD) Youth director, on Jesus as the True Leader; Laudimer Gatus, Cavite Satellite Field Office Youth Director, on Spiritual Leadership; Marlon Ramirez, church pastor, on Millenials; Glenardo Taotao, district pastor, on the Role of Millenials in Proclaiming God’s Message; Kenneth Patilan, church pastor, on Youth as God’s Stewards; Jun Carlo Tamparong, district pastor, on the Role of Youth in Stewardship; Area 4 Chairman Alfred Selin and district pastor Isaac Catampatan on Masterguide and Pathfindering; Ivandale Remocal, district pastor, on Love and Courtship; Tony Stanyer, SSD Youth Coordinator, on the Importance of Media; Geronimo Viernes Jr, CLC Youth director, on Discovering Who Jesus Is; Rene Montoya, CLC Sabbath School and Personal Ministries director, on Youth Participation in Care Group; and Angel Tolentino, CLC treasurer, on the Attitudes of a Good Leader.
In like manner, the retreat exposed the contextual challenges the young people face today. Workshops, open forum, and team building activities took place that stimulated their minds to look for answers and apply it in their local church or personal lives. Several delegates who joined the affair conveyed their thoughts about their involvement.
“This is one of the best experiences I had since joining youth activities initiated by the Conference. I was blessed to hear every message.” – Marilyn Eturma
“Even though we came from afar just to attend this retreat, I was never disappointed. The messages were as gentle reminders of my calling as a youth leader.” – Hazel Espinosa
“The team building is terrific. It enhanced my socialization skills and taught me to become more relational when applying leadership abilities.” – Genesis Lee
According to Pastor Geronimo Viernes Jr., Youth director of CLC, most of the delegates were intentional to participate in the mission of the church. “Their eagerness participation in every session claims that they want to listen and interact more,” Viernes remarked.
All in all, it was the Holy Spirit who moved the hearts of the young people to work for the Lord in today’s generation.

There is an urgent call for the involvement of young people in evangelism. Once realized and achieved, active participation commences. So is the goal of the Central Luzon Conference Youth Advisory and Direction Setting on January 7 in Los Banos, Laguna.
With the theme “In His Service,” 24 leaders from the 11 areas of the conference gathered to comprehend and apply leadership in the local church setting to fulfill God’s Commission for the upcoming evangelism explosion this year—Philippines for Christ 2018.
Timely lectures and activities were presented and led by selected ministers who encouraged the youth to move forward recognizing the presence of the Lord before them. “In our leadership, God has promised His abiding presence, assisting help, and anchoring power once we truly commit our lives to Him,” said Pastor Uzziel Pardillo, associate pastor in Seventh-day Adventist Church in Baesa, Caloocan City.
Attendees positively responded with the calling of Pastor Geronimo Viernes Jr., conference youth director, to depend on God and not on human power when it comes to witnessing. Area 6 Secretary Gen Camato commented, “I am glad to join such experience knowing that I can contribute something to witness for the Lord,” while Leo Ladores, Area 1 President, expressed thrilling sentiments: “I can say that I am now ready to promote, inform, and equip our young people about evangelism.”...
